Whiteplains Announcements List - Missing kitty - 3/8/2022

Has anyone seen our Kallie cat? He is really fluffy and has a brownish collar with silverfish on it. He has been missing for a week now. This is the longest he has been gone for. Please keep a lookout for him. Our son is missing his best friend.

Get your soup ready - Soup Off Coming 2022

Since enough interest was shown we have decided to have the annual “Soup-off” competition/fellowship. The event will be held at our hangar Saturday, February 12 @ 6:00pm. Make a pot of soup or chili if you wish it to be “judged”.  Desserts, bread, crackers, etc are also welcomed. Ballots for voting are $1 each. We have had on occasion 15 different soups to sample. It’s almost impossible to taste all before you are full and there are many great cooks here! We will furnish bottled water, iced tea, and probably a pot of coffee. Feel free to bring a soda of your choice. This will be our 10th event here and most likely our last one hosting. Looking forward to a good turnout. I will try and send out a reminder closer to the event. Please call me if you have questions or suggestions. Due to space limitations following COVID protocols will not be totally possible. Sincerely, The Moore’s 244 Cirrus Ln

Hot Air Balloon Landing At Whiteplains Plantation. 10/18/2021

We would like to thank Don Bell for flying into SC99 from the farm in his hot air balloon.  What a beautiful approach and landing on runway 9.  Weather was perfect for his flight over this evening.  Someday we hope Don will do us a flyby as well.

Thank You... Adopt-A-Highway October 2, 2021

 Greetings,

Ed and I wish to say thank you to all our amazing neighbors that came together to volunteer for the adopt a road cleanup day. We had a morning gathering, sharing coffee and light snacks, and then proceeded with gloves and claws to pick up the inevitable trash. The cleanup took less than 90 minutes with many hands making light work.
A special shout-out now goes out to Mike and Jean Moore, Steve and Bobbi Crimm, Don Nowakowski, Patrick and Gwen Hoffmann, Lee Ann Nations, Cassey Beckel, Dave and Lynn Parsons, and Denise Bryan.

Summary:
14 volunteers
28 bags collected
Way too much sugar to start!

We have a two-year agreement for Adopt-A-Highway, and we meet quarterly to contribute towards the effort to maintain cleaner highways and roadways. Our next event will be in 2022.
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon…without our vests and gloves!
Attached are photos from the event.

Thank you... Crack Sealing Team Members

Thank you to an amazing group of volunteers who completed the crack sealing of the runway in 4 hours.    Thank you Bill Como, David Crone, Jim Franklin, Mike Knox, Steve Mestler, Mike Moore, Don Nowakowski, and Tony Scribner.  I appreciate your hard work and great attitude!   Protecting the runway is key to protecting the value in our homes and keeping future repair costs down. Well done!

And thank you to everyone who shut off their sprinklers!

Overall my assessment is the cracks need less filling each time we do it.  The first time we did it we used way more sealant than we used today.   I was pleased with the condition overall when I inspected the runway prior to the work.   And we found very few new cracks.    As everyone knows we will have to spend over $300,000 to resurface the runway when that day comes.  Keeping cracks sealed and surface seal coated periodically can defer this significant expense.
