Guess who is on the cover of Breeze

Look Who's On The Cover!

This is the Spring 2012 Coast Guard Auxiliary publication of The Breeze for District 7, covering Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Story on pages 22 and 23. It was an interesting and fun day – this was a great crew to share it with. I knew the photo was a good one when I took it but it looks better on the cover!

Subject: Aviation Summer Camp scholorships available

Hi all,

This summer 50 free scholarships will be given out for kids to attend an aviation summer camp in S.C. See: http://www.thecelebratefreedomfoundation.org/#!soar/vstc8=education-camps and attached information for details. My understanding is that 50 free scholarships will be available. One set aside for each county in S.C. and 4 extra "floating" ones.

Just wanted you to know in case you knew of a deserving youth who is interested in aviation. If you do, please let them know about it. They may want to apply!

Thanks,

Lara Kaufmann

New Park at GMU

Hi all,
I just wanted to fill you in on the current progress of the park project at GMU. Please see attached drawing. This is the "1st Draft" design for the Park at GMU! Thanks Parks McLeod!... The runways shown are not the real ones, they will be in the park! The plan is to have a "taxi way" around the park for people to use for exercising; a natural amphitheatre for viewing the real runway action and to use for school trip lessons; a picnic pavilion; a plane fuselage that will serve as the entrance to the park; airplane wings over benches that will serve as shade structures; and of course some play equipment surrounded by lots of open green space! The city permits to start moving dirt have been applied for. Please consider donating so we can get the park built! For more information please visit. http://www.greenvilledowntownairport.com/Park.html or follow the project on Facebook.
On Thursday, May 24th there will be a huge fundraising party for the park! Get your tickets now athttp://www.eventbrite.com/event/2875439517!!! We will be having a silent auction. If anyone has items they would like to donate, please let me know. Event sponsorships will be available. More details to follow. The band will be http://www.legendsofbeach.com/fr_home.cfm which includes members from the orginal Embers band!!
Hope you are having a great day!

We had a great turn out this morning at K-mart for breakfast.

Friday, February 10, 2012

I was honored to represent our Whiteplains neighbors at noon today, where Dick Hitt received the Wright Brothers Master Pilot award for 50 years of contributions to aviation and safe flying.

The presentation was at the annual meeting of the South Carolina Aviation Association, held at the Grande Dunes Marriott in Myrtle Beach.  Over 300 aviation leaders from South Carolina were present to honor Dick and Judy for this very fine achievement.

Pictured with Judy and Dick Hitt is Marty Crouch from the Columbia FSDO.

Gilbert Fire Department Donation

Mike Moore handing over check to Chief Jerry Crout

Mike and Jean Moore hosted SC99's first "Soup-Off". Good food and fun was
enjoyed with 40 plus in attendance. The winners were Bobbie Crimm 3rd place,
Peggy Como 2nd place, and Ann Cargile was this year's winner capturing
1st place honors. As a result of her victory and help with the awards
future soup-offs will now be called "Souper Chef".

In addition to good food and fun, we raised almost $112.00.
The money was donated to the Gilbert Fire Department and accepted by
Chief Jerry Crout who stated the money will be used to purchase equipment
for the station.

Friday night, at the Fender's hanger, we had a drop in to welcome home James "Bo" Fender after serving a year in Afganistan while serving with the US Army. If you didn't get to attend, here is a short video from last night.

Thanks again Bo, for your service to your country.
