Board Meeting

There will be a brief meeting of the Board of Directors on Monday, July 23, at 7 PM in Ken & Peg's hangar. The only agenda item at this time is to complete the discussion and vote on issues relating to Parcels C-N through C-R (the gazebo and the properties adjacent to it).

As always, any Whiteplains property owner is welcome to attend.

Pilots Meeting Canceled

Due to conflicting work and personal schedules of both Jack and myself the pilots meeting has been canceled for tonight. Did not make an earlier post on this because I was hoping that one of use would be available, but this is not the case. New time. I don't know yet. It is looking like it will be possibly July 30th since many of us will be attending Oshkosh this year and not around earlier. Eric Demaray

Weather: Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 88. Calm wind becoming southwest between 4 and 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

First Step to Recovery - Tail Removal

Tuesday: July 10, 2007

Today, the new owners of 6447Q, started the recovery process of repairing and restoring my old bird, a 1967 Mooney M20F. As you know it had the misfortune of rolling down Jack's taxiway tail first into a tree.

The first thing they did was to remove the tail section where it bolts to the tail cone. then they drilled out all of the rivets behind the last window. Inside, on both sides, are two bolts that hold the structures together. Then they removed the prop and spinner.

Loaded onto a flatbed trailer they headed off to Tennessee to begin restoring. He said that in no time, it will have a new tail, paint and interior. It will fly again!

Welcome Party for New Neighbors

Today we had a nice get together at Jim Wheat's hangar to welcome two new families ( the MacKay's and Crocker's) to Whiteplains. Beth & Rob were the official organizers, but everyone pitched in to give them a warm Whiteplains welcome.

Party Time!

Safety Item:

To make the mower more visable while mowing around the runway, a new flag has been purchased and installed on the mower. Thanks to Bill Como and Don Cook for getting this done. A light is also being purchased that well also be installed on the mower once it comes in.

Board of Directors Meeting

Update 6-27-2007

Monday’s board meeting had a good turn out with thirteen residents and five board members in attendance. If you have never been to one, come on out to the next one and see how your community government works.

It was reported that the lawn mower is paid off. Not bad for only its second year. To date we have almost 100 hours on the mower that has worked flawlessly. Thanks to Bill Como and Jim Causey for making this happen.

Bill Como reported that the Sign's are all installed and came in under budget. Thanks to Vicky, Bill and Don for making it all happen.

Bill also reported that volunteers are still needed for mowing and weed whacking. Volunteers help keep the regime fees low. If you want them to stay low, then volunteering an hour or two of your time would really help and be appreciated by all the current volunteers.

The windsock has been repaired. The part that keeps failing is made of thin plastic and isn’t the right material for this application. Maybe we can get one of the machine folks to make us one out of metal if it fails again.

Ken reported that the green light for the beacon has failed. They are going to check and see if a pulley can be installed on a tree on the property behind Whiteplains. This is need so that we have a way to lower the tower to make repairs on it, such as the beacon light and flags. A new American flag was purchased for the tower. They are going to purchase a new Whiteplains flag as the old one is in bad shape. Ken also reported that he has a lead for acquiring replacement runway lights.

Bridger's Well finished! The hole that is...

Today they finished drilling the Bridger's well. They had to go down to 705 feet of which 89 feet was sand and the rest solid rock. They should get 2 gal per minute out of it.

Better then nothing I guess.

What's Happening at Whiteplains....

Update: 6-25-2007

The wind sock has been repaired (again). The glue joint failed (again). This time Bill Como, and Don Cook repaired it using three screws. When it fails (again), we'll have to replace the base unit with a metal one, since the plastic one is too weak.

The MacKay home is now finished. I hear that they might be coming in to look at it on Thursday. Hope they have a nice trip coming over the pond.





The Bridger's are having a well drilled.







When I asked Rob how far down they where going he replied, "Till we hit water". Hope you find some, Rob.

Board Meeting......

There will be a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Whiteplains Plantation Association on Monday, June 25, at 7 PM, in Ken & Peg's hangar.

ADS-B Demo in Hickory, NC

Today, Ken, Bill and Don flew up to Hickory, NC. to see a demo of the new ADS-B system that is being rolled out across the USA. Right now only traffic and weather are being uploaded, but they have a lot more planned for the future. Like all new technology, it is a bit pricey but they hope to get the cost down from $20,000 now to $3,000. Time will tell, but I think this is a step in the right direction.

NC took a bold step in getting this system out. They installed 200 units FREE to anyone that wanted one that already had the MX display in their panel. The only catch is that you had to agree to give demo flights, like the one we went to. Not a bad deal at all.
