Travel with us as we go and see what happens at the other end of the mic when talking to air traffic control.

Whiteplains Announcement: Hanger for Sale or Rent

Update: SOLD!

Hi Folks,

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday.

As my aviation migration continues heading south I am putting my Hanger up for sale or rent.

It is located in beautiful downtown 118 Cirrus Way, next to Jim Causey's hanger.

It is a 40 x 40 insulated hanger with water, sewer and a 1/2 Enclosed Bath.
Comes with a really cool Schweiss strap type door, press the remote and the door opens for your arrival.

It presently houses my Bellanca Super Viking and other toys which are going to their new residence in Jacksonville, Fl.

I would like to sell the hanger as opposed to rental, but would entertain a lease or lease option.

I have an active interested party at $75,000 but first money buys. Owner financing is an option.

Thanks for reading and Blue Skies............

She will spend some time with her family then enroll in school in Germany, likely in Hospitality Management. We wish Damaris the very best with her new adventures.

World Tracker Info

At the bottom of the Whitesplains' blog is a World Tracker Finder & Page Counter. You may have noticed that all of a sudden, most of the tracks have disappeared. This is due to a periodic clearing of the map due to so many tracks to display.

To the right of this is a site counter, below is the data as of this date.

Whiteplains - Fall Road Cleanup

In case you couldn't make the clean up this morning, fire up the Photoshow and join us as we make the rounds. Hope to see you at the next one. Thanks to the Fastnaught's for hosting this event once again.

Corvair College #12 at Whiteplains Plantation, Nov. 7 – 9, 2008

Congratulation to Ed Fisher for hosting a special event here at Whiteplains Plantation. Corvair College #12 was a huge success this weekend with attendees coming from all across the country to learn how to convert the Corvair auto engine for use in aircraft.

The Corvair College is a program led by William Wynne from North Florida who is considered one of the country's foremost experts on Corvair engine conversion for aircraft use. The purpose of the ‘College’ is to assist all attendees, no matter their skill level, to learn the tools and knowledge required to get the Corvair engine ready for powering an airplane. William puts on about one college a year and conducts Corvair forums at Sun N Fun and Oshkosh. This is the twelfth college that William has conducted.

In my case, I was a total beginner and spent my time learning to disassemble an engine just as it was removed from the car. Others brought their own engines at various stages of readiness. Some brought parts needing inspection to determine their eligibility for use in an aircraft engine, while others had engines ready for final assembly. William and other technical leaders were available to share their knowledge and guide the assembly process and perform inspections.
One attendee, Larry Hudson from Indiana, completed his assembly and was able to put his engine on the run-up test stand. After a couple of false starts and a little final tweaking it started up and ‘purred like a kitten’.

Forty-Five people attended the College coming from as close as 200 yards (myself) and as far away as western Texas and Ontario, Canada. Others came from Michigan, Ohio, Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida and West Columbia.
Seven airplanes were flown in for the event: a C-170 from Ohio; 3 KR-2’s one each from Alabama, Pennsylvania and Columbia; a Pietenpol from Barnwell, SC; a Tri-Pacer from Virginia and a ‘Cleanex’ (that is a Corvair powered Sonex). In addition to the Sonex, Corvair engines powered two of the KR-2’s and the Pietenpol.

Many favorable commits were made about our community. One such as, ‘I may plan to retire here’. Ed has done a wonderful job of enhancing the reputation of Whiteplains across the country. GREAT JOB Ed! Let’s do it again next year.

Whiteplains Community - Fall Road Cleanup

It's that time again for the Fall road clean-up. This has always been an easy Saturday
morning adventure with good fellowship and friendship of our
community. It's also a good time to meet some new folks in the
community or even along the road, and to show our support to a better
and cleaner environment.

The clean-up will begin at the Fastnaught's home on Saturday the 15th on Nov.
at 8:30 AM for a light breakfast and then on to the road. Please dress warmly
and bring gloves.

We thank you in advance for all your help,

Jack & Diane

William Wynne Corvair College #12

Above, the 25th Corvair powered 601 to fly was built by our friend Lynn Dingfelder from Corry, Penn. Lynn's plane features an engine he crafted himself utilizing our Conversion parts. The engine was cowled and installed using virtually every component available from our Catalog. Lynn is a very friendly guy who has been to our hangar as well as a number of airshows. We look forward to seeing him fly into many of the same events at 2009. Hats off to Lynn Dingfelder for proving yet again that persistence pays.

Hello again.....Thank you to everyone .....many people are responding and offering to help in some way next weekend (Nov7,8,9) As Val and I host the William Wynne Corvair College #12. Saturday night at 5:30 pm we are having a pork picnic at our home hangar at 361 Whiteplains Place, and everyone is welcome. If you care to, a covered dish to share would be appreciated. We hope to have many interesting Corvair powered aircraft on display to look at, weather permitting. William will conduct the Class starting at 9 am Saturday in my shop hangar down the hill on the northeast end of the airpark. It is an open house atmosphere, come and take a look at how successful auto engine conversions are built......Ed Fisher

Hot Air Balloon Seen During Gas Run 10-20-2008

Phil asked me if I would like to go with him on a gas run in his Barron, dahhh... yes! On the return we saw a hot air ballon and managed to get a few air shots.

Here we are, Phil gassing up the Barron. Ching...ching....Ching$$$$

Phil at the controls of his nice Barron!

On the return flight back to Whiteplains we saw this hot air ballon and managed to get a couple of shots from the air.
This was very close to KCAS airspace.
Back on the ground at Whiteplains, I was able to get one more shot before it drifted from view.
Micah and Phil going over the next step in putting up Phils' new hangar door.
Controls for the door. Note that this is a Schweiss door.
Door is almost finished. Still due, door in the door.

Whiteplains Plantation Ride & Drive Adventure

November 14 – 16, 2008

We have been talking about this for a while, and here is the plan for a Fall Ride & Drive adventure to the Smokey Mountains. Anyone that would like to enjoy a weekend of motorcycles or a ride the mountains is welcome to come. At this time we know of at least 5 motorcycles, and an assortment of cars that will ride the Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap, http://www.tailofthedragon.com/ The Tail of the Dragon has 318 curves in 11 miles, and is America's number one motorcycle and sports car road. The nearby Cherohala Skyway is quickly becoming number two with its remote 60 miles of scenic mountain highway. The area also has other roads less traveled, but just as exciting.

We are planning to stay Friday and Saturday night at Fontana Village Resort. Located near Fontana Lake & Dam the Village has a wide range of accommodations, including rooms in The Lodge, suites, cabins, etc. To make your reservations, go to: http://www.fontanavillage.com/ and you can make them on-line or by calling Fontana Village at 800-849-2258.

We are planning to stay in The Lodge where rooms are $59 to $89 per night. When you make your reservations if you ask for a room close to Dennis Perry or Jeff Cargile, they will try to keep our group together.

In addition, we thought it would be nice to have a group dinner Saturday night. If you plan to go and would like to participate in the dinner, please let either Dennis or Jeff know and we will make some arrangements.

Dennis Perry, 609-6751

Fog came in fast!

Around 7:50 A.M. Monday saw fog roll in over Whiteplains.  In just a matter of minutes, the visability went from unlimited to down to a few hundred feet. Keep this in mind on your next flight, that this could happen to you at your destination.
