conjunction with The Commemorative Air Force filmed these aircraft
during the Veterans Day Celebration on Saturday, November 13th, 2010.
The B17 Bomber was flown by pilot Russ Gilmore and the B25 Bomber was
flown by pilot Spike McLane. The base for these bombers is Falcon Field

Subject: Runway lighting
Pilots,
The lightning storm a couple of weeks ago generated a quadruple failure. The microprocessor in the radio receiver was fried, a relay coil burned out, a switch failed, and a ground wire was burned in two.
All are now repaired and all of the control functions work as intended: dim lights on at dusk, PCL for bright lights, PCL for the VASI, day/night VASI brilliance, and shutdown at midnight.
However a separate failure (apparently an underground splice) has the west loop of runway lights inoperative (the circuit breaker trips). We will be getting to that as soon as we can get the right people/tools lined up.

SCBC at Triple Tree Procedure
Please check back from time to time for updates and before you leave to come
to the Triple Tree Aerodrome Fly-In
ARRIVAL PROCEDURES FROM THE WAL-MART DISTRIBUTION CENTER:
· Approach Triple Tree (except Ultra-Lights) from a point 8 NM south of the airport. The landmark that will be used to identify this point is the Wal-Mart Distribution Center (N 34.543’ W 81.995’) (GRD 020/19.5 NM) which is located just south of Interstate 385 and US Highway 221. This landmark will be referred to as “Wally World”.
· From Wally World fly a heading of 020º along US Highway 221 and look for the town of Enoree (N 34.650 W 81.956). From Enoree, fly a heading of 305º and fly directly over the Triple Tree Control Tower. Enter a midfield left downwind (northwest) for Runway 3 or, if runway 21 is the active, a right downwind. A close-in downwind would be appreciated. Tower will instruct you on landing sequence and traffic advisories at this point.
· All arrivals: Keep radio chatter to the absolute minimum. When checking in over Wally World and Enoree, just state your Type and Color; No “N” number. Radio congestion at this point is not safe! Monitor the Multi-com frequency of 122.9 MHz as far out as practical. Be on your toes!
· Maintain 85 KIAS (or 96 MPH) & 1,700 MSL. Landing lights on.
· Twins: Same instruction as above except fly at 100 KIAS or less & 2,000 MSL. You will be overflying aircraft on the same heading off “Wally World” who may or may-not be following the altitude restrictions. Eyes out the clear part of the canopy!
· Ultra-Lights: Enter the opposite downwind (southeast) at 1,200 MSL (500 AGL). If radio equipped, listen for advisories on 122.9. If not radio equipped, sequence yourself as best you can. Keep a close pattern and we’ll work traffic around you. Clear the runway ASAP.
· AGAIN, your best radio etiquette and then only state your aircraft type and color e.g., “white over blue Bonanza, Wally World”.
· Clear the runway ASAP to the east. Look for a “Follow-Me” vehicle and switch to123.9 to communicate your intentions. Make sure that your mags and master switches are off. Please check 121.5 for ELT.
NORDO Aircraft: If you plan on flying into the aerodrome with no radio (NORDO); please call the control tower @ (864-420-0596) and provide them with the following info:

When departing runway 3 or 21, fly runway heading until reaching 3NM (or above 2000 MSL) then proceed on course.

Due
to the increased volume of traffic in the past few years, Triple Tree
has adjusted the Arrival procedures for the fly-in to accommodate the
pilots AND professionals in
the control tower. This will help alleviate any potential hazards and
ensure a safe and expeditious flow of traffic into a fun-filled

Water Pipe Repair at Whiteplains
Jim Causey, was able to find a leak that they have been looking for over a year. Thanks to the dry weather, Jim notice at the corner of the street a green area about 3 feet in diameter. Using a post hole digger, he discovered that the ground below was wet. As you can see, the heavy work was done by no other than Vern Scott, while Jim gave coaching and direction from his chair, with an umbrella in one hand. Naturally on such a hot day, a cold beer in the other hand while Vern dug in the 106 degree heat. They (Scott) is going to fill in the hole tomorrow after checking for any more leaks.

As many of you know, the Federal Government is taking steps across the board to become more efficient and to reduce costs, and our move to electronic records is consistent with those initiatives. One of the significant enhancements will establish a tracking program so that pilots and AMEs can query the system and electronically determine the status of applications. Future enhancements will also transition air traffic control specialists (ATCSs) to MedXPress, after internal FAA coordination and some modifications to the ATCS certification system. Why wait for the October 1, 2012 deadline? We encourage you to begin using MedXPress today. Volunteer Pilots Needed!!!
Mission: To Salute, honor and pay tribute to America’s military men and women, including our veterans on the 4th of July.
Background: Salute from the Shore is a very accessible opportunity for South Carolina beachgoers to honor and pay tribute to our armed forces on Independence Day, the most important patriotic day of the year for all Americans. Organized in 2010, the Salute features a flyby of four F-16s from Shaw Air Force base down the entire coastline of South Carolina. Beach-goers dress in red, white and blue, create patriotic displays visible from the air and wave their American flags as the jets fly at low altitude overhead. On July 4th of 2012, four F-16s from the 79th Fighter Squadron, “The Flying Tigers”, from Shaw Air Force base will fly the mission from north to south beginning at 1:00 pm on the North Carolina/South Carolina border. “The Flying Tigers” were the last Americans to leave Iraq and are proud to be flying this mission!
Scenes along the SC coast are filmed on shore and by aerial photographers. Additionally, men, women and children have an opportunity to offer their own personal tributes which are recorded by professional videographers on the beaches. All of the scenes are compiled and distributed through various internet sources, the Salute from the Shore website (www.salutefromtheshore.org) and via DVD to military personnel around the globe as a way of showing them South Carolinians’ appreciation for their courageous service to our country.
We are told by the Air Force that Salute from the Shore is likely the largest flyby in the history of America as it is witnessed by an estimated one million people on the beaches of South Carolina.
New Initiative: The organizers of Salute from the Shore want to take the Salute to new heights in 2012 by specifically acknowledging the selfless contributions of America’s veterans. In addition to a comprehensive public relations campaign highlighting the veterans, it is our goal to fly numerous vets down the beach, preceding or immediately following the F16s, to give these representatives of our military an opportunity to have a birds’ eye view of the patriotic spectacle on the beaches and witness first-hand this tribute to them and their peers.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! To accomplish the flyby of veterans, Salute from the Shore needs many, many volunteer pilots to fly a patriotic mission on July 4th. The concept includes a parade of private airplanes filled with veterans who most likely will be selected from those who have participated in the Honor Flights to Washington, DC.
If you want more information or you are inclined to volunteer your aircraft, your fuel and your time to participate in the flyby, please contact John Folsom at your earliest convenience.
Salute from the Shore can always use additional volunteers to provide aerial photography. Helicopter pilots, professional or highly qualified amateur photographers are essential to producing high quality video to share with our military men and women.

medicals, you should go now and do it. It takes literally a minute or
two. And forward this to your pilot friends, and your potential pilot
friends, and your no-longer flying pilot friends, and everyone that
may support it.
The proposal has been on the FAA docket since March 20, and only ~2000
people have commented on it since it opened up for public comment!
Tens if not hundreds of thousands of pilots could be directly and
immediately affected by this positive change, and no one cares enough
to write a sentence or two supporting it? And if you're not having
medical questions now, you most likely will in the future. Why have we
become so apathetic?

Acadia Air Tour Flight Bar Harbor, ME

Last week we managed to get up to Bar Harbor, in Maine. Got a short flight around the island in a Cessna 182. Great place, and the view from the air made the flight worth while. The airport is really nice. I wouldn't mind going back, but this time in the Mooney.
