It's a long way from Soldotna, Alaska‏

Greetings from Tanner, Alabama where Festus’s 1968 Mustang has lived for the past 10 years.  He bought it almost 15 years ago in Soldotna, Alaska.  Today it was finally retrieved from the farm yard.  We replaced all four tires and loaded it on the car trailer.  The right front tire locked up so it took longer than expected.  Thanks to Bill and his brother-in-law, there was extra brute force help for the task.  Here is a FB page of photos that show the retrieval.

Barron 55 Lunch Flight to Greenville.avi

Video by; Don Cook

Lunch flight to Greenville airport turned into more than we all planned for when the number two engine wouldn't turn over. Turned out the started died. Phil had a spare back home. John Gardner called Jack Fastnaught to see if he could fly the starter over to us. Sure, said Jack. Not only did Jack show up but Bob Gillman flew up in his plane in case the stater didn't work and we'd all need a ride back home. Tuned out the started worked just fine and we arrived back home safe and sound.

Homebuilders Hall of Fame

Fisher, an EAA member since the late 1960s, grew up in an EAA family, and by age 12 he was helping his mom and dad build airplanes at Birdland, the family airstrip in Thompson, Ohio. Ed’s first completed homebuilt was Sonerai 1 Blueberry, which he started in high school, and was to be the first of 18 homebuilts he completed. His first “original” design was the Zippy Sport, which placed third in the 1983 Western Flyer/EAA ARV design contest.
His company, Raceair Designs, was formed in 1990, and designs such as the Skylite, Micro Mong, Flitplane, Zipster, and Lil Bitts have all come from Ed’s hands and mind. Five of his designs have been made available as plans, and two of these designs, the Skylite and Zipster prototypes, have been Oshkosh grand champion award winners and regional winners in the Ultralight category.

Earl Yerric - Died 10-18-2011

image001.png@01CC8D7B.882F3230
We pause for a moment of silence to mourn the passing of our good friend and fellow pilot Earl Yerrick, from Columbia, South Carolina. Earl passed away this morning following a long illness. 10-18-2011
High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
